Reception at Easter Island airport and transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon to visit the town of Hanga Roa by your own.
Trekking. We hike from the ceremonial site of Tahai along the coast, visiting the harbours of Hanga Roa Otai and Hanga Piko (where the last restored Ahu stands). We will then hike up across a eucalyptus wood on the slope of Rano Kau volcano (320m). After a deserved pic-nic, we will watch the crater and later hide to the ceremonial site and village of Orongo, with 53 houses of unique design. We will also enjoy a nice view on the Motu (islets) before we hike down towards the coast. On the way back, we will see some big caves, like “Ana Kai Tangata”, known for the rock painting. Transfer back to the hotel.
Trekking: 10-12 kms; 3 hours and ½ hike. Total duration of the excursion: 7 hours.
Bike excursion. Our tour begins on the southern coast of the island, in the archaeological centre of Vahiu. After visiting the site of Akahanga, where the famous king Hotu Matua is supposedly buried, we arrive at one of the most important and greatest attractions of Easter Island: Volcano Rano Raraku. Almost all the moai were carved in its quarries. We follow a nice path that leads to the crater, and see on the way numerous moai lying unfinished. We continue towards “Ahu Tongariki” where 15 moais stand aligned, to get finally to “Te Pito Kura” where we can admire a huge moai, the highest ever lifted on an ahu. Our tour ends at the beautiful beach of Anakena, with golden sand and numerous palm trees. Transfer back to the hotel.
Bike excursion: 30 kms (4 hours approx). Total duration of the excursion: 8-9 hours.
Horseback riding excursion. Transfer to the sector of Vaitea (8 kms), where the horses wait for us. We ride up across the eucalyptus wood, and then reach the summit of Volcano Terevaka (511m). After a delicious pic-nic we ride down to the restored site of Ahu Akivi, a platform with 7 restored moai. Before we return to the hotel, we visit some caves and also the site of “Puna Pau”, where the reddish Pukao (topknots) of the moais were carved.
Horseback ride: 15 kms (4-5 hours). Total duration of the excursion: 7 hours.
Transfer to the airport to take the return flight. End of the services.
